Thinning eyebrows are a common concern amongst older women. As we age hormonal change interferes with hair growth and causes it to thin. As eyebrows are one of the most important features on our face in leaving a lasting impression (shown by a study at the University of Lethbridge in Canada), adding proportion and framing the face it’s important they’re looking their best.
On top of this, over plucking, waxing and threading eyebrows over the years takes its toll. It can result in permanent damage to the hair follicle and no regrowth as a result.
Hair follicles have cycles for growth, regression and rest. The eyebrows hairs experience a shorter cycle than that on our head which caps the growth to the short length they are. (4months compared to 3 years)
So how do you deal with thinning and straggly eyebrows?
Fill Them In
Fill in brows for more definition, use the shade that’s right for you. For blondes and grey hair use a colour around two shades darker, still keeping the colour very light. Don’t over do it as brows too dark and full can look fake, especially on a mature face.
Finish With A Holding Gel
Seal make-up with a clear fibre gel to shape and secure for longer. This will add texture and depth to your brows while holding makeup in place for longer.
Transforming sparse brows into healthier looking fuller brows – A blend of fortifying proteins, stimulating peptides which are clinically proven in a study of 61 women over 60 days.
Celebrity transformations: Pencil thin eyebrows were very much the trend in the 90s with celebs like Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez and Drew Barrymore all tweezing their brows for a thinner line. These sizes have now doubled and tripled following today’s trends. We all want lusciously bold arches like Cara Delevigne!
Eyebrows are such a prominent feature, something which age can obscure. But with the right care, you can have your brows looking full again and take years off your appearance!
