Establishing Positive Habits to Transform Your Health

The general rule of thumb has, for a long time been, that it takes up to 21 days to form a habit. However, recent studies indicate that it may take a little longer than that – roughly 66 days, depending on the type of personality you have. Okay, so, a little over two months is nothing in comparison to what you gain from adopting habits, especially if they have the power to completely transform the way you live and improve both your physical and mental health. Still, we have a sneaking suspicion that it will take you way less to become hooked on these practices. Reason: you will see the results so quickly and see your life change in ways you didn’t believe possible, that quitting won’t even cross your mind.

Now, with all that said, let’s take a dive and explore these habits so you can start living your healthiest life as soon as possible.

We Need To Talk About Anxiety

We’ve all been there – had a stressful day, a stressful month, a life event and even a breakup. Did you know that, among many other health issues, stress can even cause premature aging? Aside from all of these (as it weren’t enough to fill one’s plate), chronic stress has the power to lead to anxiety, and that’s one of the most common mental issues the world is facing today. Anxiety is no laughing matter. It can cripple a person and make them completely frozen, unable to lead a quality life. That is why there are numerous ways to both recognize and cope with anxiety. There are therapists, self-help books as well as guidance for self-care, and together, all these methods are bound to get you out of the woods. You deserve to lead a happy non-apprehensive and fearless, healthy life, so if you notice signs of anxiety, don’t delay seeking help.

Exercise The Stress Away

As mentioned before, stress can truly drain our batteries, both in the mental and physical sense. In order to not allow stress to transcend into anxiety but also to prevent it from causing us physical health problems, there is more than one way to combat it. One of them is exercise. Yoga may be one of the best forms of physical activity, as it has the power to both clear your mind and strengthen the body and make it more resilient, but the truth of the matter is, whichever form of exercise you feel drawn to, that’s the one that you should take up. Running, doing a gruelling session with a personal trainer – all of these things tend to empty the mind, improve your cardiovascular health, make you feel more energized and even have a positive effect on your immune system.

Another highly effective way to combat both stress, as well as health issues, is meditation, so steal 20 minutes of your morning and start mastering this ancient wellness practice. We promise it will completely transform your life.

Mind What You Wear

During the last couple of years, the emphasis on the quality of the fabrics that we allow to touch our skin has become paramount. After all the evidence on just how much pollution processing fabric absorbs has come to the fore, the amount of chemicals involved in the processing of the fast-fashion garments we wear as well as the horrid working conditions, the importance of turning to ethical fashion and choosing ethical and organic clothing, from underwear – the garments that come in closest contact with our skin, to almost every other garment out there, has never been bigger. This isn’t only a matter of sustainability, (although we could all stand to be more conscientious when it comes to our planet), it’s also a matter of health.

Organic fabrics such as organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, linen are all amazing and healthy fabrics that don’t cause irritation, asthma flare-ups as most of them have anti-bacterial properties, the ability to reduce respiratory problems, and simply feel better on the skin. You may not have thought that something just touching the surface of your skin can be detrimental to your health, but think again and save your body.

You Are What You Eat

This saying used to be taken for granted, but now with the discovery that some foods are simply superior to others – hence the name superfoods, has made these words resonate more than ever. Some of these you’re probably familiar and in love with, while others might take some getting used to. However, when it comes to health, pull all the stops and begin by integrating a couple of these superfoods into your diet at a time. There’s a reason they’re called super – they are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids, all there to make sure everything in your body works like a Swiss watch. The transition of eating whatever to actually mindfully preparing your meals may be the most difficult habit to adopt, but once you see the results, on both your health, mood and even the appearance of your skin, you’ll never look back.

Finally, having an established daily routine will put all of these other habits right where they belong, and you will be able to adopt them with ease. Make a plan, put a whiteboard up on your wall if you have to. Schedule your meals, your work obligations, time for meditation, time for physical activity, time for preparing healthy meals. It may seem like a lot, but when you organize your time effectively, you’ll even become addicted to order and organization, and you and your new mentally and physically new self will never look back. Of course, regular checkups are a definite must, but if you stick with these habits, you’ll pass your physical with flying colours.
