Why I Am Adding Collagen Drinks To My Skincare Regime

A big trend in 2019 has been the increased focus on skincare, with consumers wanting smoother, lighter, line free, glowing skin – faster. More and more medical grade products with new supercharged ingredients for the skin are being launched but the big trend is the rise in people adding a collagen skin drink into their regime.

Yes, boosting your skincare from the inside out sounds appealing, so I decided to investigate and try it out and talked to Rejuvenated to discuss the benefits.

Why We Need Collagen

There is a growing recognition that the nutrients, minerals and proteins you eat and drink nourish you from the inside out and promote healthier skin. Our diet directly impacts our skin, with certain foods and drinks helping increase collagen production.

Collagen is the inner magic ingredient, a fibrous protein produced in the body. We need more of to boost our skin as it helps repair tissue, reduce wrinkles and gives you better skin. By eating healthy fats like Avocado, that are packed with nutrients, sterolins and vitamin E, we can enhance the skins collagen and help keep it moisturised. Other fruits and vegetables like blueberries,  kale, raspberries, blackberries and pomegranates all help increase collagen.

So Why Do We Need Extra Collagen

As we get older our collagen production, like many things, starts to slow down and reduce by 1-1.5% a year. The collagen in our skin is reduced by 50% or more when we are over 50, depending on lifestyle choices. A loss in collagen to plump up the skin, combined with sun damage, lack of sleep, hormones and diet leads to fine lines, wrinkles, thinning of skin, dark circles, jowls and overall sagging.

Does Science Show Collagen Skincare Drinks Work?

Yes, there have been some major clinical studies that show the taking a good quality collagen drink will increase the collagen in the bloodstream and increase collagen density, skin hydration and skin elasticity. The studies also show that injested collagen stimulates the body to start producing more of its own collagen.

Some research has shown that taking collagen drinks, shots or vitamins will have a more lasting effect than using a cream as you are targeting deeper layers of the skin. With collagen supplements helping to make structural cell changes, where as creams mainly boost surface hydration.
