Jo Whiley the undeniable queen of Glastonbury, Radio 2 presenter is proof that #ageisjustanumber, rocking post-50, providing style inspiration, first class coverage for Glasto and staying active while sticking to her busy schedule as a mum of four.
The midster has been to 20 Glastonbury’s and recalls to The Times her first, “when I was 16 or 17… Van Morrison was on the bill.”
She first fronted BBC coverage of the festival two decades ago and still provides her same bubbly, and insightful commentaries and interviews for the annual event currently.
Although she has changed her prep routine for the five-day festival since then, “I drink less, because it really hurts,” she says. “Hangovers are horrendous. Also, I can’t risk going on air at anything less than 100 per cent.”
The 51-year-old follows an intense exercise routine as part of her pre-Glasto prep, “I don’t want to be gesturing towards the Foo Fighters and have bingo wings flapping.” she says.
Whiley feels much happier after exercise, which is one of her main incentives for doing it regularly. She tells Hip & Healthy she gets “grouchy” if she doesn’t and tries to fit in a swim or a jog.
When asked if she’d still be doing it at “61 or 71”, Whiley replied, “I can’t see why I wouldn’t. As long as they ask me to go I will be there. Whiley has become synonymous the event and we can’t imagine anyone else filling her shoes.
Her ultimate beauty icon is 57-year-old Kristin Scott Thomas, who she describes as “elegance personified” while Whiley admires 48-year-old Helena Christensen who does “natural beauty in such a cool way”.

Whiley is an inspirational midster, embracing her age and it’s encouraging to see her continue to cover Glasto in her effortlessly chic style. We hope to see the DJ cover many more in the future!
