Banish Dark Circles: 5 Best Under Eye Concealers

By @adelemitchell

Instant results on dark circles: our favourite under eye concealers pack a full-cover punch.

As much as we’d like to imagine that under-eye circles give us a certain  ‘just getting in from the night before’ sexy allure, the reality is that more often than not they just make us look really, really tired.

Unfortunately, dark circles tend to get worse as we get older too: this is due to the age-related loss of subcutaneous fat under the very thin skin beneath the eyes. This leaves hollows and gives the skin a darker appearance as the underlying blood vessels or melanin pigmentation shows through.

Luckily there are some great allies at the makeup counters, ready to conceal, reflect light and add radiance with one swipe of your finger.

And these are our favourites:

By Terry Densiliss Concealer

  1. By Terry Densiliss Concealer £44

A one-step treatment concealer that delivers radiance, complete cover and age-correcting and firming benefits with every application. It instantly creates a flawless and long-lasting matte finish that is easy to blend and build, and which leaves the under eye area bright and refreshed.

Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

  1. Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector £21

Recommended by Rejuvage makeup artist Lizzy Court, this first-of-its-kind corrector works as a ‘backlight’ beneath concealer to help eradicate dark circles. It’s infused with ultra-fine light reflecting illuminators to brighten and even the skin tone and its creamy consistency mean it sits smoothly on the skin and won’t settle in fine lines.

Studio 10 Age Defy Skin Perfector

  1. Studio 10 Age Defy Skin Perfector £32

A favourite of mine, this skin perfecting palette is formulated for mature skin and features primer, two concealer-to-foundation shades and colour correctors: and it’s the peach-toned corrector that is the secret weapon to counteract dark circles.

Laura Mercier Secret Concealer

  1. Laura Mercier Secret Concealer  £19.50

A makeup classic that is available in 12 cool, neutral or warm undertones to match and blend for skin perfection. This has a wonderful moisture-rich, creamy consistency that glides over fine lines and gives natural looking buildable coverage.

Mac Concealer

  1. Mac Concealer £16

Formulated for long wear and water-resistant with an SPF 35, this is ideal for those with active lives who want to know they can rely on their base to last. Lightweight to wear and creamy on the skin, it is also available in 23 shades for a perfect skin tone match.

How to apply under eye concealer:

* These products are highly pigmented so you only need to use a little – you can then build to achieve the coverage you want.

* Apply after primer and foundation. Use your ring fingertip or a fine makeup brush and gently pat to blend.

* For a smooth, even result, blend the concealer a little wider than the edge of the area of discolouration.
