Model Amber Valetta, aged 43, stars on the latest cover of British Vogue – and we love the pro age message that it sends out.

Amber Valetta has long been a favourite supermodel of ours, but it’s the way Vogue has chosen to depict her on the latest cover that has made us so excited! The new May issue (published on 7th April!) shows Valetta in a happy, relaxed and confident pose – and, as a world leader in fashion opinion, Vogue’s decision to photograph her in this way sends a wonderfully positive message about ageing.

For too long older women have simply been invisible in the fashion and beauty media, or age has been presented as a ‘problem’ that needs fixing rather than a place of experience and empowerment that should be celebrated. So it’s wonderful to see a cover image of an older model looking radiant, natural and self-assured, with a beaming smile on her face – as well as a few facial lines!

Interestingly there is no reference to age on the cover – she just looks great, and that’s all we need to know.

It’s 23 years since Amber Valetta first appeared on a British Vogue cover (and, for the record, this is the eleventh time she has been a Vogue cover star) – and she continues to be very much in demand having walked for Isabel Marant, Versace and Dries Van Noten in recent catwalk shows. It seems, increasingly, that age is where it’s at!

The cover line ‘Feel good’ says it all and we applaud Vogue’s decision to choose a 40 plus model for their latest cover and, to do it with understated style.
